The Official SURVIVOR II Tour THE AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK
|
|
The Australian Aboriginal people tell how, in the beginning, the Rainbow Serpent created the land and all upon it. They call this beginning The Dreamtime, the time before the time of the oldest man, and each person is connected to Creation through their personal Dreaming. For tens of thousands of years small groups of nomadic Aboriginal people lived and passed through the vast
Savanna, an open woodland region that lies to the west of Australia's Great Dividing Range in North Queensland.
|
|
 |
|
These groups hunted, fished and gathered food sufficient for their daily needs, taking only as much as required and available whilst developing and using the skills and knowledge needed to survive in an often harsh environment.
Europeans first visited the area in 1845 and European habitation began in the 1860s. More recently an area within the region known to Europeans as Goshen Station served as the setting for a 'survival experience' drama shown internationally as Survivor II.
The Adventure Company, Australia and Goshen Station have recreated the Survivor experience, providing an 8 day adventure
centred on the unique Savannah lands adjacent to the majestic Herbert River. We will bike, canoe and hike in open woodlands and rainforest.
We will experience many of the challenges faced by Survivor II participants, with ample time and opportunity to explore, relax and enjoy the unique country, meet new friends and dine on fine foods.
Your guides have been selected for their environment skills and friendly interactions. They will amaze you with their knowledge of Flora and Fauna and they tell great campfire stories of the region, the original Aboriginal inhabitants and the struggles of early European settlers. |

Day 1
CAIRNS / GOSHEN STATION
Pickup from your hotel and travel south from Cairns through cane fields, turning inland we climb up onto the Atherton Tablelands, a plateau averaging 3,000 feet. We stop for morning tea enroute before travelling via Ravenshoe and Mt Garnet to Goshen Station, home of SURVIVOR II. Along the road we can expect to see hundred of kangaroos and many Emus. Following lunch we have a trip overview with our guides and a chance to look around the area and unpack. This evening is a campfire dinner and a great opportunity to learn more about fellow Adventurers.
GOSHEN STATION
Day 2
LIFE ON THE STATION
We awake to the sounds of birds and after a hearty breakfast will venture out onto the station to learn about the fascinating history of the area, from times when the Aboriginals lived on the land to present day. We learn about the Flora & Fauna and what to avoid, the geology, cattle farming and branding, the Survivor show, how to throw a Boomerang and much more. We swim at Bloodwood falls and with luck may see some of the more timid wallabies found in the area.
GOSHEN STATION
Day 3
MOUNTAIN BIKES / BLENCOE FALLS
After an introduction to the bikes, gearing and safety we mount the bikes for the first part of our adventure, a ride through the open
savannah bush both on and off tracks towards the magnificent falls of Blencoe & Bloodwood. We lunch on the side of the river and take the opportunity for a swim. After lunch we again take to the bikes for an afternoon of exploring. We expect to encounter many Kangaroos, Emus and other wildlife. A support vehicle is in attendance; approximate riding distance for the day is 20 miles.
GOSHEN STATION
Day 4
CANOEING / CASHMERE TO KUCHA on the HERBERT RIVER
After another great home cooked breakfast we load our canoes and other equipment and head off for an adventure in Survival. At Cashmere crossing the group will be randomly split into 2 teams. Over the next 3 days you will experience what the 16 survivors had to endure. Your guides will be on hand to show you skills from fishing, hunting, Bushtucker & medicine, all of which you need to survive in the Australian outback! We use either hard or inflatable canoes depending on the water levels and after a briefing and safety instruction we take to the Herbert River. After a morning on and around the river we arrive at Kucha camp, the first of the Survivor camps. We set up camp before dinner and learn more about the area, swim and explore.
HERBERT RIVER CAMP
Day 5
CANOEING / KUCHA via BARRAMUNDI to CHALLENGE BEACH
After breakfast we break camp and continue paddling down the river, taking in the breathtaking scenery and searching for wildlife. Your guides will ensure you see Crocodiles (freshwater) and plenty of other Flora & Fauna. We lunch at Barramundi camp before continuing to meander down the river via Ogakor camp (second Survivor team camp) to Challenge beach. Here we make camp for the night, before hiking to Eagle Bluff to watch the sunset over the Great Divide. This evening is a great opportunity for some
night time spotlighting.
CAMP CHALLENGE
Day 6
BUTCH CASSIDY / TRIBAL COUNCIL & The RAINFOREST
After breakfast we hang up our paddles for our boots. From Challenge beach we hike through bushland that abounds with wildlife. We then arrive at one of the most spectacular Challenge locations where we will have a little fun ourselves. We then continue hiking to set up camp close to the location of the tribal council. We also visit the Herbert River Falls one of
Australia's best kept secrets.
FALLS CAMP
Day 7
RAINFOREST GORGE HIKING / TRIBAL COUNCIL
The sun rises in a quite spectacular fashion over the Herbert River Falls and we enjoy an early breakfast as we watch this. The Herbert River Gorge is almost inaccessible with only one trail leading down to the Remnant Rainforest at the bottom of the gorge; the vegetation dates back to Gondwana three hundred million years ago and offers a very different experience. We try our luck fishing for Barramundi or Black Bream and exploring before returning to camp. Tonight we will stage our very own Tribal Council and you can each cast your vote to find out who is the most likely Survivor!
FALLS CAMP
Day 8
GOSHEN STATION / BOUNDARY GORGE / KIRRIMA RANGE / CAIRNS
We breakfast at camp early before transferring back to the station, after collecting our bags we travel to Boundary gorge for a beautiful 3-hour walk in the rainforest and through the Kirrama range. We arrive at Murray Falls for a swim and picnic lunch before travelling north along the coast and back to Cairns. We arrive in Cairns late afternoon, each one of us a true... |
